Steampunked projector.
Projector image.I've finally something to show for all my mucking about with my projector. The image links to a Flickr photo set of the monstrosity in it's current state.

I'm looking for a way to make uploading photos simpler and easier. For now, I'm going to try my hand at flickr. It's not perfect (for example, I still need my webspace to upload a thumbnail) but it's faster than crafting my own photo galleries from scratch.

While I vastly prefer the flexibility of the RAW format, I may also  switch the camera over to JPG. That would drastically reduce the needed steps for uploading project logs.

Sometimes you want to take beautiful photos, but sometimes you just want a snapshot so you can say "Hey! Wires!". It's all hypothetical right now, but I'd like to get some more pictures up. It's so much easier to show what I'm building than it is to describe it through text or voice.

My favorite is the little water faucet knobs on the side. Cool.

if you go to the actual URL of the image on flickr (so when viewing the image, right click and choose view image or whatever) then try adding _m before the .jpg in the filename

e.g.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2357/2308486024_b2eb7d80ee_m.jpg
is a thumbnail from flickr's site for the image you have there. it's not as big as your thumbnail, but that's what I use for my thumbnails, and I think they look fine.

btw, flickr also has a way to just post directly to lj, if you want to do it that way.

Both extremely useful to know. I've only just started on their software, so I imagine there's any number of features and tools I'm missing out on.

Thanks for the advice.

It's so easy it's like taking candy from a person selling candy... if you have money. Yes, that easy.

1. Log in (it only works on images in your acct)
2. Go to the photo's page and click on the 'all sizes' link right above the image.
3. You should now see a selection of image sizes available, including 'thumbnail'. Click on whichever you want to show.
4. Scroll to bottom of page and copy the text in the indicated box into your LJ post. It should already have a link tag around it! So convenient!

The link won't work for me, but well done anyway :)

It looks alot like an old gramaphone case I used to have...

Freakin rad!
For the cable, you might consider getting some mesh-hose that you use for things like extending sink faucets. It really only needs to look good for a few feet, right? A light spray of copper paint + ink wash afterwards could make it look super steampunk.

Though it's probably too late now, for future mods, you might consider a home-made bellows system for focusing using... expanding file-folders!

I've not revisited the cables yet (I'm sure you're shocked), but I'll definitely consider this as an option. The challenge will come from the plug ends.

With the power cord, it won't be much trouble. I can get replacement plug kits for that. The monitor cable is a lot tougher. I can get the 15-pin d-sub plugs, but wiring it up will be quite the headache.

Still, I like the idea too much to just dump it. We'll see.
