I'll be (hopefully) hosting a Winter Ball later this year which will be of the masque variety. I thought as host I should wear something suitably garish and noticable and so have decided on the theme of a peacock.
However, the main element I wanted to incorporate was a peacock feather eye cloak wherin the full garment had the feathers layered in such a way as to make only the beautiful eyes visible.
I was struck by an idea today though that this may well work better with a slightly Steampunk twist both for cost - since peacock feathers are really quite expensive - and appearance.
So I thought I should pop my head in here and pick your brains, figuratively speaking. Suggest a way of making peacock feather eyes out of Steampunk materials - cogs, sheet metal. &c - which makes each eye less expensive than a feather (approx. £1.40 GBP). Ideally the loose idea I have is that I'd purchase a bulk of cogs, washers and the like and sew, glue or solder them together to create the eyes I want, though I'm very unsure about this.
Due to the amount of fabric involved in the cloak I think I'm looking at using somewhere in the region of 250-500 'feathers' for the whole thing, possibly interspersed with one or two real feathers. There shall certainly be peacock feathers on whatever hat I end up wearing.
